Trips and exchanges
Local inter faith bodies sometimes arrange trips to other areas of the
country to visit other inter faith initiatives and learn what they are
doing. For example, as part of the run up the launch of the new
Middlesborough Council of Faiths, a visit was paid to Leicester
Council of Faiths to find out about its work and its welcome centre.
Multi faith bodies sometimes also host or help arrange visits to their
areas from groups from less diverse areas.
Churches Together in Cumbria has
arranged three very successful visits to other faith communities
in towns in Lancashire in order to increase the understanding of
Christians in Cumbria of the lives and experience of sisters and
brothers of other faiths living in this country. In April 2003
ninety Christians from Cumbria visited communities at a Hindu
mandir (temple) and a Muslim mosque in Preston. In October 2004
another sixty Cumbrian Christians went to Blackburn, visiting a
Sikh gurdwara and a mosque, and sharing lunch and discussion with
the Blackburn with Darwen Inter Faith Council. Thirty more
Cumbrian Christians visited the
Preston communities in May 2005.

We have established in the last
few years a very good relationship with the Muslim community in
Exeter. Following a visit by our group to them, we were hosts to
quite a large group of them to an all day event here, where we
were able to make use of a huge house for a day of shared worship,
meal, discussion and talks. We also have an ongoing relationship
with one of the Sikh gurdwaras in Bristol and have exchanged
visits.
